What is Sherford Kids & Youth?

Sherford Kids & Youth is a community-led initiative, and part of Sherford Community Church.

The idea grew out of conversations with children, young people and others in our local community, and within Sherford Community Land Trust, who felt there was little provision for young people in the area. Sherford Community Church were invited to take the lead on developing new provision, due to our extensive experience working with children and young people.

After recruiting a wonderful team of volunteers from the church and wider community, Sherford Kids & Youth (SKY) launched in 2026.

What do we do?

On Wednesday evenings (7-8pm) during term-time, we run our Youth Hangout for secondary-school aged teenagers. We are based near the playpark/skate-ramps in Sherford. Our team of volunteers arrive at 7pm, with loads of ideas and energy, a trolley full of games, and plenty of snacks. Together with the young people who join in, we decide what to do that evening - if we don’t have the right kit, we’ll make sure to bring it the following week.

All our volunteers are safely recruited and DBS-checked, and can be clearly identified by our uniform tshirts/jackets. We are committed to creating safer spaces for children and young people, by following good practice for safeguarding. If you have any questions or concerns, please do get in touch via the contact details at the bottom of this page.

What next?

We hope to collaborate with local children, young people and our wider community to decide and design what the project will look like going forward - whether that’s growing the Youth Hangout, developing an indoor youth club, organising more formal activities, running some out-of-comfort-zone adventures, or something else we haven’t thought of yet! We also hope to work together to design and develop new ideas for local provision for younger children and families too. Who knows where this could lead!

Sherford Toddlers & Babies

PS Sherford Community Church also runs Sherford Toddlers for much younger children (babies and toddlers) and their parents/carers. You can find out more here.
