Our vision, values, and priorities are underpinned by our commitment to prayer, worship, learning from the Bible and each other, generosity, having fun, serving together, fellowship, pastoral care, developing as disciples and leaders, growing together in our relationship with Jesus, and so much more. If you’re interested in any of this, get in touch – we’d love to get to know you and explore how you could join in!
About Us
First and foremost, we’re a community of people trying our best to follow in the way of Jesus and to play our part in seeing Sherford flourish. We’re a group of friends, an extended family, a bunch of people going on an adventure together with Jesus. It’s good fun, and good for the soul.
Sherford Community Church is a new kind of church for a brand-new town; just as Sherford is still being built, the church is still growing with it. We’re led by Jon & Tammy Oliver, who are ‘pioneer ministers’ - which means we not focussed simply on looking inwards, instead our priority is to look outwards; to engage creatively, missionally and generously with our wider community.
Our vision is to follow in the way of Jesus (spending time with Jesus, learning to become more like Jesus, experiencing God’s love, sharing this love with others) and to play our part in seeing Sherford flourish (joining in with what God is doing in our town, seeking opportunities to live and serve alongside our community, sharing God’s love throughout Sherford - and beyond).
Sherford Community Church is a registered charity (No. 1175545) and is governed by a Board of Trustees, who are responsible for overseeing governance, finances, policies, etc. We also have a more informal ‘church forum’ and ‘dream teams’ which anyone from the church can join, where we explore new ideas and creative possibilities for the church and our wider community.
Sherford Community Church is also part of the Church of England, within the Diocese of Exeter. So while we’re firmly rooted in our local community, we’re also supported by and accountable to the national church. Unlike most Anglican churches, we’re not part of a parish; instead we’re known as a ‘Bishop’s Mission Order’ (BMO), which gives us lots of flexibility to explore new ways of being church and joining in with God’s mission here.
